Hudson Archtiects were the only British practice invited to participate in an international design competition in 2007 for the revitalization of Koblenz city centre. The site as found was prone to traffic congestion, lacking continuity and failed to maximize the city’s medieval heritage
Working in partnership with a local practice, we delineated a clear route through the urban place. Bisecting the circular route of the existing retail centre and creating pockets of public space in a series across the city. The scheme drew upon the relationship between the city’s past and present, and was commended for its treatment of public space.
