Financial Controller - Part time role

Hudson Architects are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to support the current business owner and Directors through an ownership transition planned for 2020 and to lead the management of the finance function of the business, with support from the Finance Manager and Finance Apprentice.

Job description

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts including variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Preparation of cash flow forecast and resource/billing analysis schedules: weekly and monthly.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Practice Business Plan and development of organisational KPIs.
  • Management of year end close, working with third party advisors to complete statutory accounts, tax return and R&D tax credit submission.
  • Ensure complete and accurate financial records of business are safely maintained according to requirements.
  • Responding to ad hoc financial queries generated by the Company.
  • Control the Company’s accounting function including the active monitoring and management of financial transactions and cash flow, highlighting potential issues to the Board in a timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures, establishing a commensurate level of controls in the business to ensure asset protection whilst not eroding company culture.
  • Ensure the Company financial systems are robust, compliant and support current growth levels.
  • Contract and maintain relationships with service providers including accountants, tax advisors, bankers and insurers.
  • Working with the MD, challenge the business to become more profitable and cash generative whilst maintaining a low risk growth.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory legislation and regulations including, but not limited to, the Company’s relationship with HMRC.
  • Manage a small team responsible for all bookkeeping, project accounting and AR and AP.

The post-holder will be expected to:

  • Maintain an appropriate control environment and compliance with statutory legislation and regulation.
  • Build financial understanding in the organisation.
  • Deliver financial analysis of progress.
  • Deliver approval for annual statutory accounts.

  • Strong excel skills, able to use Microsoft Office suite
