Our new wildlife and study centre for Roots and Shoots; an award winning environmental and educational charity, replaces an outdated building which was originally built as a civil defence base during World War II. Sleek, vertical cladding covers the roof and walls, contrasting a rustic six metre high Corten steel tower that marks the building’s entrance and signposts the centre. The tower not only marks the entrance but is also an interactive environmental education tool, housing a weather vane, sundial, a bee observation hive and bird boxes at high level. A highly sustainable approach has been adopted in designing the new wildlife study centre.
