Sheringham Woodfields School
Norfolk
Sheringham Woodfields Therapeutic Centre is a purpose-built extension to an existing special needs school in Norfolk. Designed to meet the complex and evolving needs of its pupils, the new facility provides dedicated spaces for Rebound Therapy, Sensory Integration, and Physiotherapy.
Developed in close collaboration with the school and sensory integration consultants, the centre includes a sunken trampoline room, a dedicated Sensory Integration suite, and flexible workrooms.
By relocating therapy provision from general classrooms, the project frees up valuable teaching space within the existing school building.
A glazed, meandering corridor connects the new building to the main school, threading through the playground and offering a quiet, transitional route. Construction was carefully phased to minimise disruption, with key works scheduled during holidays and outside of school hours, allowing the school to remain fully operational throughout.
Externally, the centre is clad in natural timber, offering a warm, tactile contrast to the red and yellow brickwork of the existing school. The tone of the timber subtly echoes the yellow brick, creating a visual dialogue that is both respectful and distinct.
The result is an innovative, purpose-driven facility that supports the wellbeing of pupils through thoughtful, collaborative design.
