The traditional look of Bishops Park Terrace belies its ultra-modern sustainability credentials. The deep retrofit undertaken to extend and reconfigure this 3 storey terrace for a growing family intelligently addresses the well-established constraints of this typology. Working closely with our design-orientated client, this leaky, energy inefficient building was transformed into an air-tight, super-insulated family home. Clever detailing and specification enabled the Bishops Park Terrace to retain the original features that give the house its character. MHVR, low VOC materials, and hygroscopic materials and finishes which regulate moisture ensure that the house is as healthy to live in as it is sustainable.
Accommodating all the competing demands on the family’s primary living space, a tightly refined ground floor plan also creates moments of magic – a quiet window seat set into the building line away from the action, and a cooking hob beneath the sky above. Carefully placed recessed top lights flood the deep floor plan with a balanced natural light.
