Working alongside Norfolk County Council, our team is leading the refurbishment of the Millennium Library, which will undergo a £1 million transformation in 2026 to mark its 25th anniversary. The project will reimagine key areas of the library, including a redesigned early years space, new homes for the 8+ and Teen Libraries, a bookshop-style entrance, improved accessibility, better lighting and wayfinding, and more study and event space.
The Norwich Millennium Library is one of the city’s most popular and well-loved public spaces. Located at the heart of The Forum, it welcomes more than a million visitors each year and remains one of the busiest public libraries in the UK. It plays a vital civic role, providing access to information and resources, promoting literacy skills, and serving as a community hub for people of all ages.
An important part of our design development is to engage the public in the future of the library. We’re carrying out engagement activities to update visitors on the proposals and give them the opportunity to add value to the design process. Alongside the Library Team we’ll be available to discuss the designs and answer any questions. The event runs from 27th October to 3rd November, with our team and library staff present to answer questions on the 28th, 30th and 31st.
We’re especially keen to hear from children and young people. Children are being invited to reimagine the Children’s Library through drawings and ideas that will inspire our design process. Young people are being asked what draws them to the library and what might make it even more welcoming. We’re also speaking with the youth groups and library users attending regular activities to ensure a wide range of voices are heard.
The ideas and feedback gathered will directly influence the next stage of design, helping to shape a library that continues to reflect the community it serves and belong to everyone who uses it.
