FibreBroads: Paludiculture Product Potential within the Construction Industry

How can the restoration of peatlands help shape the future of sustainable construction?

As part of the FibreBroads research project, we have explored the potential of paludiculture, the rewetting of peatland and cultivation of wetland crops, and how these materials could contribute to a new generation of low-carbon construction products. Working alongside project partners across the Broads, the project investigates how wetland farming can support peatland recovery, biodiversity and carbon storage, while creating new materials for the built environment.

This presentation shares our research into paludiculture crops, their processing and product potential, alongside examples of emerging construction applications, prototype building systems and future opportunities for the industry. We hope it helps raise awareness of the role that regenerative landscapes can play in delivering a more sustainable built environment.
